Energy Future PA Praises Bipartisan Commitment to Securing Pennsylvania’s Legacy as National Energy Leader
HARRISBURG, Pa. –Energy Future PA Co-chairs Conor Lamb and Kate Harper today issued the following response to recent statements by both Gov. Josh Shapiro and Republican leaders of the General Assembly that reinforce a common goal of securing Pennsylvania’s legacy as a national energy leader.
“Governor Shapiro this week unveiled his plan for jumpstarting dramatic new investments in Pennsylvania’s energy economy. Fortunately for Pennsylvanians, the goal of securing Pennsylvania’s legacy as a national energy leader crosses party lines. While there may be differences in how we get there, it’s clear that Democrats and Republicans in Harrisburg agree – we cannot afford to sit by and watch as other states and nations claim the mantle of energy leadership for themselves.
“With demand for energy quickly outstripping supply, we must act with urgency for Pennsylvania consumers and businesses to develop solutions that allow new energy sources to connect to the power grid. And we must embrace a comprehensive approach to building new energy capacity so that we can ensure our power supply is reliable, clean and affordable.
“For centuries, this nation has been powered by Pennsylvania energy and Pennsylvania workers. It’s our collective responsibility to make sure Pennsylvania’s legacy of leadership continues and that our energy future is ‘made in PA.’ That means setting aside political labels and working together on common-sense energy solutions that put Pennsylvanians first.
“Energy Future PA is intentionally nonpartisan, and we – as co-chairs from opposite parties – are examples of how this issue crosses the political divide. We also count labor and business as our members, as well as voices from the environmental and academic sectors. As Gov. Shapiro and the General Assembly prepare to begin work on the upcoming state budget, we call on both parties to work together for the common goal of securing Pennsylvania’s rightful place as the nation’s energy leader – not just today but for generations to come.
“Let’s pave a new, better way forward for Pennsylvania’s energy future – one that expands jobs for Pennsylvania workers, powers our local and state economy, and strengthens our communities.”
